Education

The teen years are a time when students form their habits around how they engage with disagreement in their personal relationships, in the workplace, and in the civic sphere. By leveraging cutting edge research insights, online communication technologies, AI advances, and our relationships with grassroots bridging organizations, we can help the new generation disagree better.

Constructive Disagreement Training for Students

We have created an online course to train incoming students at Harvard in constructive disagreement. The content is delivered asynchronously through a set of short videos, reflection exercises, and personal assessments. After learning the basics, participants can practice their skills and receive feedback on their performance by interacting with a custom-designed chatbot.

  • The online format minimizes the costs associated with training hundreds or thousands of students.

  • Interacting with a custom-designed chatbot, lowers many barriers to practicing constructive disagreement.

  • The course is grounded in cutting edge behavioral science and is focused on improving behavior during disagreement, giving students a practical toolkit for disagreements large and small.

  • The efficacy of the course is being systematically evaluated using surveys and behavioral measures. The results of the evaluation will be used to improve the course for future years and new partners.
