Healthcare

Stress and burnout among doctors and nurses is at an all-time high, but is this really surprising? Healthcare professionals receive minimal systematic training in how to manage disagreement and prevent conflict escalation. And yet, disagreements with patients, patient families, and colleagues is a daily occurrence.

Effective Disagreement with Patients

In collaboration with the Council of Medical Specialty Societies, we have created an online course to help the 800,000 medical specialists in the United States gain crucial skills around constructive disagreement, particularly focused on vaccine conversations. Our course consists of short videos, a personality assessment, and a series of reflection exercises. With examples drawn from healthcare settings and specific tips and tools designed for the setting, we hope that our course will help healthcare workers focus on what matters most - excellent patient care.

Our goal is to embed this training into the curriculum for medical residents to help young doctors more constructively engage with patients, families, and community members.

Effective Disagreement with Colleagues

Medical professionals function in complex and fluid teams made up of doctors, nurses, technicians, administrators and many others. Is it any wonder that these teams frequently encounter disagreement that can easily spiral into conflict? We seek to empower healthcare teams with tools for effective disagreement across job categories and specialties to reduce stress and increase team effectiveness.
